Homemade Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub Recipe

Thursday, April 23, 2020

In hope to be more sustainable and save the planet, I have made an aim to make more beauty products at home, have fun and be creative with it. About a month ago, I started making this scrub recipe just to test it out and now I have all my friends making it as it’s so good.

Ingredients + Recipe

an up cycled jar
1/2 cup of coconut oil
1/2 cup of soft brown sugar (any sugar will do)
1 tbsp of vanilla essence

-------------

Combine all ingredients in a bowl until it's a whipped, smooth consistency. Pop this in a jar and use once a week for a good exfoliation and moisturize.

The coconut oil is great at locking in moisture and leaves your skin smelling and feeling incredible. It’s a wonder product and has so many cool benefits for your body, skin and health.

The brown sugar acts as a great exfoliant and really gets in and removes all the dead skin.

I think it’s best used once you’ve done a hard workout, before you shave your legs etc. Please just make sure you're careful when using it in the shower, as it’ll make the surfaces quite slippy.

Enjoy getting scrubbed up! - what a pun.

How to De-Clutter and some tips to keeping your place tidy!

Monday, April 20, 2020

As we are all spending more time at home, its easy to make more mess and for things to get out of hand. I have recently de-cluttered my bedroom and bathroom after reading the book "Minimal: How to simplify your life and live sustainably" By Madeline Olivia and it was much needed and you should definitely do this if you get the chance.

De-cluttering your shizzle

There is a rule to de-cluttering which is simply illustrated in the book (great read) but in short, break up an area into categories and then put this into sub-categories. So to start in your wardrobe, start with pulling all your socks out and picking out all the socks that have holes, that are itchy/uncomfortable and ones you don't like and put these in a pile to either give to a charity shop or recycle. Make a pile of socks that you like and are comfortable and the ones you um and ah about put in a maybe pile. So you should have 3 piles. Only put back the "like" pile and make sure you do it neatly. Pop the "no" pile in a box or bag to bring to the local charity shop/recycling bin (search for your nearest fabric recycling centre) and finally make a "maybe" box and hide this, if you reach to get anything from it, you can pop to in the "like" pile or within 6 months you can send this to charity.

On instagram I recently discovered a brand called Refashion, which send out free shipping bags to send your old un-wanted clothing and they re-sell it or upcycle it. They have a selected list of brands they love which you can follow or not. They ask that all clothes are freshly washed and the bags hold around 15 garments of clothing. With your bag, you get a return shipping label free of charge, so it's a super easy way of recycling old clothing.

You can always sell clothing on sites like Depop and Poshmark or upcycle it yourself. You can get crafty with your sewing kit and do some cool patterns on your jeans or shorts. Just get crafty with it!

Tips on keeping your place super tidy

I am a naturally tidy person anyways but I think that’s because I’ve adopted a few habits along the way.

I’ve learnt that by de-cluttering, it’s a lot easier to keep things tidy as you want to remain that way. I like that all the stuff I have now all has a spot (bar the Easter eggs on the side). So it simply takes you to put items back where they belong once you have used then. Not hard at all... But life can be busy sometimes and we can get lazy, so that’s when you form a load of clothes on your floor. It happens to me all the time and I hate mess.

The Solution: weekly just do a tidy up, I do mine every Sunday, hang up clean clothes, put dirty ones in the wash and pop everything back in it’s place. Ready to start a new week off!

As far as cleaning goes, one evening a week I just try and do it all in one. Give the floors a clean and Hoover, dust and clean. It makes a massive difference once you’ve cleaned your space and it’s also quite a workout.

Skincare Saviours: Soap & Glory Ultimelt

Friday, April 17, 2020

Over the years I have realised that my skin loves cream cleansers. The Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish was actually a skincare staple of mine as its very good at getting deep down and into the pores and removes make up well.

I think a very good dupe for that is, the Ultimelt Hot Cloth Cleanser from Soap & Glory. It has a super creamy formula and the scent is very soothing and relaxing which is lovely for a morning and evening cleanse. Retails for £10.00.

My preferred method of use is to get a pea sized amount and massage between your fingers before applying onto your face. Give your face a good massage and lightly rub over your eyes, nose and lips to remove any makeup and dirt. Then run the water until its hot to touch, and soak a muslin cloth (this is provided when you purchase the cleanser) in the water and ring it out. Slowly remove all the cleanser with the cloth until your face is super clean. The muslin cloth is very slightly rough on the skin which gives it a light exfoliation every time you cleanse. Repeat this process if you used the cleanser to remove makeup to provide a deeper clean or leave it on your skin for around 15 minutes for a cream cleansing mask.

I like to follow this up with the For Daily Youth 6 -in- 1 Multi-Active Moisture Lotion. This is super hydrating and leaves my skin feeling light and nourished. It has a similar relaxing scent to the cleanser and great to use in the morning and evening. Retails for £12.00.

Working From Home Office Wishlist

Monday, April 6, 2020

As most of us are all working from home at the minute, why not make your office space super super cute.

I have put together a cute Wishlist of products I really want to have in my office. Maybe you can take some inspiration and get your desk setup looking great!

Daily Planner from UO - Super cute and definitely needed to keep organised during these times.

Plants from Patch  - If you are in London, this website is great for purchasing plants. Its simple to use and the delivery time is relatively quick. Plants are great for office spaces as they are cute and are proven to help with productivity. Patch also have a selection just for air-purifying plants, nothing better than plants making your air quality better.

Copper lamp from Wayfair Lamps are a nice touch to any office space. This one from Wayfair is really nice but they do have quite a few nice ones on their website. Definitely worth a look!

Stapler from Amazon - Staplers are office essentials, why not make it super fun and get one with copper staples to make those boring documents a little bit more fun.

Pen pots from Amazon - There are some really nice pen pots from Amazon. I think the hippo one is cute and childish. Whereas the marble one is more stylish. Depending on your taste, I thought they were both really suitable.

Self Care 101: Getting a Quarantine Glow

Saturday, April 4, 2020

Since we are all having to stay at home to keep away from the virus at the minute, I think its a great time to give yourself abit of self care. Imagine coming out of the quarantine and glowing like a goddess and feeling great.

While we have lots of spare time, we might aswell focus on ourselves. It's time to delve into your bathroom cupboards and find all the face masks and moisturisers.

Get your body movin'

As we get a walk a day, why not use it! I have 3 small dogs and I reckon they have never had this many dog walks in their lives. Walking and being around nature is scientifically proven to make you feel more energised and happy. Whilst we are getting abit of sunshine here in the UK, why not do it and I promise you won't regret it.

Why not try a new sport? Take up some yoga or do a home HIIT exercise workout. Just because gyms have closed, it shouldn't be an excuse not to get your body moving!

Have a bubble bath.

Literally nothing better than getting in a hot bubble bath after you've been on a cold walk or your a bit achey from yesterdays workout. If you don't have any bubble bath or lush bath bombs to enjoy a nice bath. A bit of body wash and a candle will do the trick. Grab a book and a hot cup of tea and relax! Try and keep this time tech-free as a lot of social media at the minute is slightly negative so best to keep away as much as possible.

Give your body a good scrub and shave.

Once a week, a good body scrub and shave is a really good way to get rid of the all dead skin and hair. I absolutely love it when my skin is silky smooth. Keep an eye on my blog for a homemade scrub with an in-built moisturiserssoon as I know a lot of stuff is very difficult to get hold of products at the minute.

Mask it up

Put a hair mask, face mask, foot mask on. You name it, mask it. Masks are a great way to moisturise, deep clean and care for your body. During my usual day to day life, I tend to forget about face and hair masks a lot. But its super important to moisturise your hair especially if you like to dye your hair or like to apply heat.

Clean your sheets

Another treat, I like to do around my pamper evening is to make sure I clean my sheets. Its the best feeling when you get in a crisp clean bed and your soft skin touches the sheets. Just do it, its amazing.

Lastly, I don't know your situation, maybe you prefer to pamper yourself and enjoy this on your own. But why not get your family involved and get everyone doing face masks and nail painting. I feel like everyone finds face masks funny so why not bring a bit of positivity to your house or make it into a pamper party and enjoy a glass of wine while you do it!

All Things Good - March Faves!

Monday, March 30, 2020

My March favourites are primarily lifestyle based, just because I haven’t left the house since Friday the 13th when I got sick with a nasty cold, so makeup hasn’t been my go-to thing.

Whilst we are all in a weird period in our life’s, since being home and truly embracing my new routine, I have found a few little favourites for the month.

Cosy essential - Recently I moved rooms in my house. I know a bit weird and I’m very lucky to do so, but my new room is a lot bigger which is really nice. One slight negative is that the room is bloody freezing, but my bed has a heated blanket which has actually become one of my favourite things ever. I like to pop it on just before I start my evening routine to get myself ready for bed so by the time I get in, my toes are super warm and cosy. It honestly does make me fall asleep faster and I would highly recommend one if like bit of warmth. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea though.

Coffee in the morning/WFH - Since I’ve been off I have been working from home. It did start by me living in my pjs and working in bed. But now I’ve found a little area in my house which I know is “my office” so I can be focused and productive there. Every morning I have actively gotten up at 7:30 and grabbed a coffee and just sat and enjoyed it. From someone who commutes every single day into London this is beyond a treat.

Dog walking - Since we are now restricted to one walk a day, I have been loving going for dog walks. I am incredibly lucky to live in the countryside, so the walks are stunning. All the new buds are blossoming and it’s very refreshing to be out in nature.
I absolutely love the rustle and bustle of London streets but since being home, it’s been nice to focus on nature.

Adult colouring books - The best thing to calm you and it’s very satisfying. It’s something that’s kept me busy after work and I’ve been really enjoying it.

With every going on,  just remember to...

Self Love 101: Valentines Day

Thursday, February 13, 2020

No matter if your in a relationship or not, self-love is really important and something we should all focus on all the time. I felt like it was appropriate to do a post as Valentine’s Day tomorrow, all around self love and care.

Sometimes we get wrapped up in our lives and we tend to forget about ourselves which sounds super silly but it’s honestly so true. It’s important to look after our bodies and mind in order to live a fulfilled life and enjoy it to the fullest.

Why not make a cute list of all the things that make you happy and then pop them on pieces of paper in a jar. Then everyday pick a piece paper out and make it your priority to do that thing, such as “sing loudly in your car” or “go to the gym”. This will not only make you feel better but it’s a fun activity.

Another idea, along the jar theme, is to write little things that you love about yourself. I know it sounds silly but it’ll really cheer up when your feeling down. If you struggle to think of some reasons, why don’t you ask a couple of your friends or family to write a few ideas on paper so you get  compliments whenever you need them.

Pamper yourself girl, you deserve it! Honestly a full on pamper is the best thing ever. It makes you feel like a glam queen and like your ready to slay the day! Even if your having a galentines party or a valentines date, pampering yourself should definitely be on your list as it’s a massive pick me up. Shave your legs, do your hair and pop on a face mask. I promise it’ll make you feel like a boss ass bitch.

Buy yourself some flowers, no one needs a man or a friend to buy you these. Doesn’t have to be something expensive either, even daffodils can light up a room and make you smile.

A little takeaway is that we shouldn’t just do this on Valentine’s Day but regularly make sure we look after ourselves, so please use this post to inspire you to give yourself a pat on the back and a little bit of love!

All Things Good: January Faves!

Monday, February 10, 2020

I thought I’d round up a few of my favourite things I’ve been enjoying, now Jan is finally over... (i know this is late, but later is better than ever...).

Cosy Fave - Layering up

It’s definitely getting colder in London and I hate being cold. So to combat that I’ve been layering up a lot. Just by putting a t-shirt on under a jumper and leggings under trousers does make a massive difference. It’s also an excuse to bring out the fluffy socks and the big scarfs/hats.

Dewy looks

I recently started using a different foundation to my normal go to which is the Nars sheer glow.
I tried out my mums charlotte tilbury foundation "light wonder" and to say the least she isn’t getting it back, sorry... It’s a light consistency and blends on the face well and leaves my skin glowing with a hint of colour. I would really recommend you give this a try, it’s definitely a light/medium coverage but it’s buildable.
Along with the makeup theme, I have also been loving not wearing highlighter in my daily routine. My go-to at the moment is the "Cheerleader" palette from Benefit. It has the famous Hoola and 2 different blushes which a mix together to get that perfect crisp wintery glow.

Nail polish

Over the Christmas period, I had a lot of events on so I got acrylics so I didn’t have to worry about my clipped nails all the time. However, with a job that needs me to type everyday towards the end I got fed up of not being able type fast enough so I took them off. Now I’ve been TRYING to love my natural nails abit more and look after them so make them strong again. I've been loving Barry M Gel Nail Polish for a touch of colour.

Drinking more water

As January is the month of health and vegans by looks of things, one healthy habit I tried to be conscious of, was drinking more water.
I have a cute water bottle which keeps my water nice and cold and I’ve been trying to drink at least 4 of them a day. It does make a massive difference to the way you feel and your skin feels. I feel more energetic and full. I can’t recommend it enough. If you struggle getting your 2 litres in, why not set some nice reminders on your phone throughout the day to drink more or get an app like plant nanny, which allows you to digitally grow cute plants as you drink more.

River island perfume

I got gifted a cute handbag size of the Paris perfume by River Island from a friend for my birthday and omg, it’s delicious. I am rubbish at describing perfumes but I am going to go and buy the full size today as I’m writing this.  It’s a light scent and not mega expensive so perfect for an everyday wear. (Retails at £14)

Edinburgh Travel Guide

Tuesday, February 4, 2020

I was surprised by my lovely boyfriend, for my 21st birthday I got to go to Edinburgh for a couple of days. Ever since I’d seen all of the pictures of cute tiny streets and incredible architecture, I was hooked.

I did end up going to some amazing places so I thought I would put together a list of the places I absolutely loved and why. So if you ever plan a trip to Edinburgh this might help.

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh castle was beautiful. It’s was full of history and incredible views of Scotland. It’s almost like a town when you get into the castle  filled with lots of little museums which explain the history behind the castle. There is also a cafe there and I had a delicious cake and tea.

Grassmarket

I went to the Grassmarket on my last day and I wished I had gone there sooner. It’s filled with lovely independent shops and cute Harry Potter museums as JK Rowling got a lot of inspiration from Edinburgh.
There were lots of small Scottish pubs around which were warm and homely.

Royal mile

The royal mile was amazing. It was lengthy road (a mile long) that runs all the way up to the castle. It was filled with amazing tourist shops and lots of cool restaurants/pubs. I was also lucky to hear the bagpipes which really made me feel like I was in Scotland.

Camera Obsura and world of illusions.

This was a last minute place we went into and turned out really fun and I recommend anyone goes there if you come to Edinburgh. It’s got incredible views of Edinburgh and a cool camera obsura show. It was a good laugh and definitely made my tummy turn at some points.

Things to try whilst your in Edinburgh

Whisky

The Scottish are famous for their whisky so we had to try some. As both my boyfriend and I aren’t the biggest fans of it anyways, ‘the Scottish whisky’ didn’t turn our heads. However if you do like whisky, there is a lot to try.

Hot Toddy

After googling what a hot toddy was, I thought it was really weird but still decided to give it a try and I kept seeing it all over the menus. For anyone who doesn’t know it’s a combination of  whisky, honey, lemon, herbs and spices, served hot. Smelt abit like medicine if I’m being honest, but definitely warmed me up as it was so cold outside. I probably wouldn’t jump out my way to have one again but I wasn’t bad.

Edinburgh Gin

I am a big lover of gin and the Edinburgh gin really hit the spot. They have a lot of different flavoured gins which all tasted delicious with tonic. I didn’t end up going to the distillery but next time I come up, I will definitely be going there.

Haggis

Do not google what is in this, just eat it! I actually really liked haggis but when you know what it’s made of, you could get put off slightly. I always think it’s super important to try things so I would definitely give it go!

I hope this gives you a round up of a few things to do in Edinburgh or inspires you to take a trip there yourself.

P.S wrap up warm and make sure you have an umbrella on you at all times.

How to press flowers

How to press flowers

Pressed flowers can be used in frames or can add a pretty touch. They also make a very cute gift for a friend or family member.

Things you will need:

Flowers of your choice, either picked or from a floral bouquet, maybe once there are starting to die.
2 pieces of paper
2 big books or something heavy to place onto of the plants
1 pair of scissors
A frame, mine used in the pictures was from Matalan. You can click on this Link to get yours!

Step 1: collect your bunch of flowers. I have gone for a few flowers we picked from my grandmas garden and some roses. Pick a colour scheme/theme.

Step 2: snip off the stems.

Step 3: arrange all the flowers on one piece of paper. Remember that this will be the way they are pressed so make sure you like how they look (they won’t turn out perfect though! But that’s the beauty of it).

Step 4: place another piece of paper on top and put your paper sandwich in between two heavy items (I used books) and this will begin the pressing stage.

Step 5: wait 48/72 hours to make sure they are dry and pressed.

Step 6: remove the flowers from the paper and arrange in the frame.

That’s it. I used mine for decoration and I loved the way it turned out.

Skincare Saviours: Lumity

Saturday, January 25, 2020

“Skincare Saviours” is a new series I wanted to start to talk all about skincare and different brands. This will include affordable skincare to the luxurious, to cover everyone’s needs. Hopefully these reviews can help you when your in your next skincare predicament.

I got gifted this product by a friend that works with this brand so I’m aware it’s beyond a lot of peoples budget when it comes to skincare. Nevertheless I thought it would be fun to review as it’s a really cool product.

The cleanser has thick black formula with small micro beads in it which help to exfoliate your skin. It also has 31 different botanical ingredients to nourish and clear your skin filled with the pollutants from the gross London air in my case.

It warms as you spread in onto your skin so you can feel it working but in a really nice relaxing way. You can remove it straight away with a warm cloth or you can leave it on your face as a mask for more of a thorough cleanse.

It also makes your eyebrows black which terrified me when I first used it but it comes off with a wipe of a warm flannel. I recommend using a black flannel or muslin cloth depending on your preference.

It leaves your skin feeling very fresh and squeaky clean.

It retails at £55.00 which was super expensive for a cleanser but worth it if your looking to add some luxury into your daily routine.
